No Ironman (Yet)

What a shocking surprise!

Last evening I was catching up on my email (over 300) that I did not pay attention to during vacation. Did I tell you about vacation? Angela had a workshop in Providence, Rhode Island. We were going to fly and stay at the Biltmore, but then we figured that with the same money we both could drive and enjoy some alone-time for the first time in over 13 years. So we both took off in (start echo voice) "the minivan of love". So named because we were together alone, not because of any unmentionable acts in said minivan.

Anyway!

We drove straight through the night and landed in Erie, Pa. I really liked Erie from the little that I was able to see. We ate and a "Eat n Park" and then went down to Presque Isle State Park. I would move to Erie for this park alone. Unfortunately, Ike was passing through town, wreaking some havoc. Yes, the color of the picture is accurate. That is how wicked it looked, high winds and starting to rain.

The next day we drove up through Buffalo and into Niagara. New York is just beautiful and it was amazing to see all the grape plants for wine that was not there when I was a kid. And Niagara was fun. I always bought into Canada having the better side and as far as horseshoe falls goes, they do! But the American side is a New York State Park that has been really made nice. Canada is all tourist and casino, which is fine, but New York is all park and nature, my preference.
We then went to the Adirondacks. Lake Placid is definitely a future Ironman place for me. Perhaps 2010?

After 2 days in Lake Placid, we took a car ferry across Lake Champlain to Burlington, Vermont, drove through Vermon, New Hampshire and Southern Maine before it became dark while driving through Massuchussets.

I'll add a few more pictures on my next post. Back to Ironman business now. As I said in the beginning of this post, I was looking through emails and finally found one from NA Sports. Clicked on the appropriate links and voila, I'm too late, registration is closed.

I was just stunned at first. I have sent an email, asking for a second chance. We'll see! But if not, I don't think I mind. With the summer I have had, I can just work on more triathlon experience and get a couple of half-ironman's completed. I might even form a team for Minnesota Border to Border.

Anybody want to be a part of a 4 person team? Steve?, Borsch?, Pharmie?, Rural Girl?, IronGirl Nyhus (and Greg)?, anybody?.

  1. 1st alone time in 13yrs...sounds like you needed the alone time more than an IM.

Looks like the rainbow is spilling out of your ear. Frame worthy!

  2. Very nice pictures! Good times!

Minnesota Border to Border sounds like a cool event. I'm going to pass for this year. One of the problems is that the longer I'm alive and racing, the more enticing races I learn about. Post IM life....ultras!

  3. Sorry about IM?!

And I don't know what I'm doing over those days in July, but I'm intrigued! (Although I don't think I'll be in great bike shape next summer - we'll see...)
