Reality really does bite!

Perhaps you already figured it out, but I am definitely a dork! An unrealistic one at that. Honestly, I don't consider it a negative or as putting myself down. It's simply descriptive.

The last couple of days I created these fantasies of maybe participating in a triathlon yet this year. First, at the end of August with the Lakes Country Triathlon up in Baxter and then even thinking, "Hey, I could just fake the swim on the Chisago sprint" (instead of racing the 1/2).

So, I saw the surgeon yesterday. Everything is healing great. But due to the type of fractures I have, I have what is called an "unstable shoulder". I'm unstable!

So what can I do? Hey, I can lift my own arm now. A little thing called Active Range of Motion.

FOR A MONTH!

That's all for a whole month. No weight, no pushing, no pulling or anything. No nothing except moving it. After a month I can lift anything under a whole 2 pounds for the following month. Then finally at month 3, I will be able to start increasing weight.

I knew this would be long, but man, this is truly depressing!

Except!

I CAN RUN!

:-)

  3. Hi:

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

I like your photo dohicky at the top of your blog. Very cool.

Sorry to hear about your injury -- but let me plant a seed:

If tris are out for this year, think about doing an indoor tri in February 2009 called Tri U Mah.

It is held at the University of Minnesota and participants swim, bike and run for 30 minute segments. Volunteers record the distance covered during each 30 minute segment and then post your total mileage.

I've done the event for the last 3 years and really love it. It is a great way to get introduced to tris, to start getting excited about training for the season and they give out really great schwag!

You can do a Google search on Tri U Mah and find the link. Registration usually happens in late fall --

Just run for now and heal. You have plenty of time for triathlon.

  6. You'll be back before you know it! I agree with Amy. Check out the Tri U Mah for the winter. I LOVE that indoor tri. Very cool stuff they give away too. It always seems to be on the coldest day of winter too!

  7. Thanks everybody.

Amybee, I agree with you more than you think. Not only do I plan on registering for Tri U Mah when it becomes available, I also saw the urbanathon on August 2nd on your site and registered. My son is going to race the 5k and I will do the 1/2.

Like the others said, the time will go by fast, and the races will be there still when you're healed. You have accomplished so much already.

  11. The time will fly by -- and you will be glad you didn't rush the healing process.
Just enjoy these dog days of summer and once the weather breaks you will be back in the saddle again.
    Take care!
