28:30 and I'm sticking to it!

Well, I did the Monster Dash 5K. As you may know, I originally signed up for the 1/2 mary but had to downgrade due to continuing right hip/leg weakness. Looked up the official results this morning (here) and they posted 29:03 for my time. That just doesn't make sense. I started my Garmin time before I crossed the timing mats and stopped it after crossing and had a time of 28:52 for 3.15 miles. Even if the .05 miles was wrong, how could my time be?

Weird! Either way a 9:11 average pace is pretty darn good for me. I'm quite pleased with it. I am also pleased with my consistency.

Mile 1 - 9:11
Mile 2 - 9:19
Mile 3 - 9:06
Last .14 miles 7:41

My next 5K is the Turkey Trot. My pace goal will depend on where my son is. It's amazing how quickly you adapt when you are young. Which is all the more of a reason that I am proud that he is racing it with me. Last evening, he ran a mile with me at a 9:46 pace.

Next year I will have a 5K goal of 8mile/minute, then go from there.

An announcement:

Most of you are not aware of my work schedule. In fact you might not even be aware that I am an Neuro ICU nurse. One thing that has been real tough regarding life and training is when I work the night shift. The night shift is 3 weeks of my 6 week schedule. And when I say night, I don't mean evening. As an example on week 2 and 3, I work 11pm - 730 am on Monday and Tuesday night, then 7pm til 730 am the next two nights. This just kicks my butt! And even more the 2nd week!

Thankfully, starting in January after PF Chang in Phoenix, I will be working mostly days and evenings. No more overnight except two nights every 6th weekend.

This is going to make such a difference for me! I am just not a night person and I have been doing it for 4 years now.

Today, I rest! (except for some stretching)

  1. They obviously messed something up! It has to be them! :-) Unless your Garmin has a weird time skipping capability... Maybe the 29:03 is a gun time?

  2. They posted clock time (not chip time) for the half marathoners, too. BAH. I want to see a 2:08, not a 2:10!!!

    Way to rock the race!!

  3. Yep, I don't think the "starting mat" did anything. It all started with the shot of the gun. My official time is not my "true" time either.

I wished I knew you were going to be out there!! I would have said HI!

I'm thinking about the 5K in Fort Snelling on Sat. See you there???

  5. Nice job. GO with your time, you started it when you crossed the line, and stopped it when you finished, unless there's World Records involved stick with your time.
BTW do you like your Garmin, thinking of getting one for christmas?
